Dr. William Chung is a board-certified small animal surgeon at Los Angeles Animal Specialty, Emergency & Rehabilitation. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (VMD) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, following a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He completed his small animal surgical specialty internship and research associateship at Michigan State University, where he also completed his small animal surgical residency.
Dr. Chung has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and biomedical engineering research, with a focus on traumatology and biomechanics. He has conducted extensive research using CAD modeling, material testing, and 3D printing technologies to explore innovations in fracture fixation and stifle injury management. His most recent study, Mechanical Comparison of Straight and Pre‐Bent Interlocking Nails Used for the Stabilization of a Tibial Gap Fracture Model, was published in Veterinary Surgery in 2024.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Chung has been recognized with several research awards, including the VOS Mark Bloomberg Resident Research Award, the Outstanding Surgery Resident’s Award, and the ACVS/ECVS Resident Speaker Exchange Program Award. He has presented his work at national and international conferences, including the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, ACVS Surgery Summit, and the European College of Veterinary Surgeons Annual Meeting.
In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Chung is a passionate educator, having taught surgical skills and techniques to veterinary students and interns. His diverse background in engineering and veterinary medicine enables him to bring an innovative, interdisciplinary perspective to small animal surgery.
